Norman Clayton Gulbrandson was born on July 7, 1930, in Donnelly, Minnesota the son of Carl and Florence Gulbrandson. Norm was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. As a young boy the family moved to rural Alexandria. Norm graduated from Alexandria High School in 1948 and went on to receive his teaching certificate.
On September 21, 1952, Norman was united in marriage to Mavis Bolstad at West Moe Lutheran Church. Norman served his country in the United States Army and spent one tour in Korea. After being Honorably Discharged he returned to Minnesota. Norm and Mavis then had four children together. Anyone that knew Norm well knew that he was a very hard worker and his family was his biggest joy. Norman kept busy with his own mechanic shop where he also sold used cars. When he wasn’t busy with cars he farmed as well.
In his spare time he enjoyed the great outdoors where he loved to hunt and fish. Norman passed on Sunday, September 13, 2020. He is survived by his three children: Diane Borner, Marty Gulbrandson, Laurie Gulbrandson; six grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Mavis; son, Wayne; his parents Carl and Florence and his sister, Francis.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 17, 2020, from 12:00 – 1:00 pm at the Messiah Lutheran Church in Hoffman with funeral service at 1:00 PM. Burial will be at Bethel Cemetery.
