Orlin Blade

Orlin Emanuel Blade was born on October 6, 1931, in Holmes City, Minnesota the son of Carl and Myrtle (Hovda) Blade.  He was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Holmes City.  He attended school in Alexandria and graduated from Central High School in 1949.  In November of 1950 he enlisted in the United States Air Force and became an Aircraft engine mechanic.  He was honorably discharged in November of 1954.

Orlin was united in marriage to LaVelle Ringdahl on March 25, 1961 at Oscar Lake Church.  After their marriage the couple moved to Minneapolis and later to Coon Rapids where Orlin worked at Grinnel Wholesale Plumbing Company.  To this union one daughter, Annette was born in August of 1965.  In 1968, the Blades moved to Alexandria and then in 1976 moved to Holmes City.   In addition to owning and operating Blades Store in Holmes City, Orlin also worked for Ludke’s/Henry’s Foods for 29 ½ years.  He retired from Henry’s in  November of 1993.

Orlin enjoyed being outside, boating and fishing, bike riding and motorcycling or four wheeling.  In his retirement years he took up golfing and became quite the accomplished golfer.  He was Champion for the seniors group more than once at Red Rock Golf Course!

After selling the store in April of 2016, Orlin and LaVelle moved back to Alexandria into Arabella Manor.  Orlin died on Friday, March 23, 2018 at Knute Nelson.  He is survived by his wife, LaVelle; daughter, Annette of Hawley, MN; nieces and nephews: Tom Blade, Sandra (Dave) Houglum, Dean (Jane) Blade, Carol Blade, Pam (Larry) Buttke, Debbie (Tony) Johnson, Brad (Alison) Rutten, Chad Rutten, Dawn (Joe) Willie, Trevor (Ann) Rutten and Kalli (Bill) Kraker; Sister-in- law Dotty (Jim) Rutten.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Leonard Blade and Sister-in-law, Anna Mae Blade, Brother-in-law Del Ray Ringdahl.

Memorial service will be held on Wednesday, March 28, 2018, 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Holmes City.  Burial at Rose Hill Cemetery.
