Orville Thun

April 7, 1937 — October 22, 2015

Orville Thun, age 78, of Alexandria, passed away on Thursday, October 22, 2015 at his home. He was surrounded by his loving family at the time of his passing.
Orville was born on April 7, 1937, in Alexandria, MN, to George and Elva (Pinske) Thun. He received his education in Alexandria as well. During his youth Orville worked for many service garages, cultivating a love for automobiles. He has kept license plates from each car that he owned over the years; a collection of 38 plates in total!
In 1959, Orville met Wanda Olson at the Corral in Nelson, MN. They were married on February 18, 1961, at Zion Lutheran Church in Alexandria. Orville and Wanda were blessed with the birth of Pamela in 1962 and Bruce in 1966. They brought much joy and many proud moments to Orville’s life. He worked for Herberger’s Department Store for 16 years. Alexander’s For Men for 3 years and Famous Products of Fargo for 6 years before starting his own business, Orv’s Wholesale Supplies, in 1990. He was a successful in his business, and retired in 2000 after selling the company to his son, Bruce.
Orville was a kind, generous, loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. One of his favorite things was going to the stock car races at the Viking Speedway in Alexandria – and many other race tracks in Minnesota. He received a “Fan of the Week” award from Viking Speedway! He also enjoyed taking a drive with his wife to the casino to see if they could hit it big – all who knew him know that these were very leisurely drives.
Many card games and laughs have been shared around the table in the Thun household, all were welcome! Orville made sure that everyone “helped themselves” and that nobody went hungry or thirsty in his home.
He is survived by his wife, Wanda; children: Pam (Brian) McKenna, Bruce Thun; 4 grandchildren: Katrina (Chris) Lehn, Kelsey Hagen, Krystal (Luke Kraft) Twetten, Madison Thun; 3 great grandchildren: Wyatt Hagen, Matthew Lehn, Liam Kraft.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
