Oscar Mantick

October 14, 1932 — June 27, 2017

Oscar “Ozzie” Mantick, age 84, passed away peacefully in his sleep on June 27,2017 at Ecumen Bethany Home in Alexandria, MN after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease.


Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 8 at Calvary Lutheran Church, 502 2nd Street SE, Glenwood, MN 56334 at 10:30 a.m. with visitation from 9:30am to 10:30 am with Pastor Mark Kahrs officiating. There will be a private interment following church luncheon at Kinkead/Sunset Cemetary in Alexandria, MN.
Oscar F., son of Bertha (Blaumann) and August Mantick was born October 14, 1932 in Athens, WI. He graduated from Wausau High School in 1950 and then enlisted in the Air Force where he completed school at the electronics training center as well as air traffic ground control in Chicago, IL. He married Margaret Rose Toth on August 24, 1957. They had one daughter, Lori Jane (Gardow).

Oscar discharged honorably from the Air Force and started a civil service position working for the Federal Aviation Administration as a flight service specialist and was stationed at Pellston in northern lower Michigan. He advanced in position thru several promotional moves being stationed in Wausau, WI, Eau Claire WI, and his final position as Chief of the Alexandria flight service until the FAA closed Alex and other small airports around the country. He retired from the FAA with 33 years service and helped to install, test and complete the automated weather station still functioning today for area pilots. He also worked with other retired FAA chiefs in the Oklahoma City, OK FAA training center to revise the training curriculums for incoming air traffic controllers. Oscar was also a licensed private pilot for a number of years.

Oscar and Margaret were members of Calvary Lutheran Church in Glenwood, MN and had a strong belief in the Lutheran faith until his passing.
Oscar loved music, was a suave dancer, and enjoyed fishing, HAM radio operation, and repairing old TV’s and Radios with tubes until transistors were invented.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret, daughter Lori of New Prague, MN, grandson Dr. Jeremy Bischoff, Hudson, WI, granddaughter Meghan Heinen of Manhattan, KS, step great granddaughter Marnie Zhea and great grandson Jameson Bischoff.
Oscar was preceded in death by his parents: August and Bertha Mantick, sisters Wanda, Anna, Elsie, Hedwig, Adeline, and Esther, and brothers Edwin and Herbert.

Memorial gifts would be graciously accepted in lieu of flowers.
