Ovidia ?Vid? Hegna was born on March 18, 1923, in Minnesota Falls Township near Granite Falls, Minnesota. She was the older of two children born to Osten and Alvina (Johnson) Ostenson. She graduated from Granite Falls High School in 1941. On December 7, 1941, Ovidia was united in marriage to Gerald Hegna at the Granite Falls Lutheran Parsonage. To this union two children were born Jerald and Lynette. Vid and Jerry raised their two children in Granite Falls. Vid owned her own clothing business ?Vid?s Tots and Teens? for several years. She later worked for the Granite Falls Bank for many years as the Customer Services Manager as well as many other duties. The couple retired to Alexandria, Minnesota in 1987 and enjoyed their retirement days in the summer at their cabin on Maple Lake with family and friends. Vid dearly loved the beautiful sunsets over the lake. They spent the winter months in Alamo, Texas. They were involved in many activities in the community including Bethesda Lutheran Church and the Alexandria Senior center. Vid had a warm and welcoming personality, she loved being around people. She enjoyed playing card with her ?Card Club? for years. She dearly loved the ladies and the regular get togethers. Vid also loved to dance and socializing all of her life. The most important times for her were when she was involved with her family for holidays, birthdays and other special events. She will be remembered for her baking ? especially her chocolate chip cookies and Christmas cookies she baked for her family and friends. Ovidia died on Wednesday, November 27, 2013 in her apartment at Windmill Pond in Alexandria, Minnesota. She is survived by her daughter, Lynette(Curtis) Johnson of Wheaton; daughter-in-law, Sharol Hegna of Aurora, IL; grandchildren: Jennifer(Brad) Walsh of Bismarck, ND, Tracy Hegna(friend Jon Risvold)of Aurora, IL, Melissa(Steven) Deal of Wheaton, Bryan(Sara) Johnson of Milbank, SD; nine great grandchildren: Hailey and Hunter Walsh, Samantha Juarez, Zackery, Isaac, and Owen Deal, Eli, Violet, and Gus Johnson; sister-in-laws: Doris Aakvik and Margaret Craig; brother-in-law, Glenn(Elene) Hegna; several nieces and nephew. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Gerald; son, Jerry; brother and sister-in-law, Orin(Virginia)Ostenson; special friend, Jack Hedine. Memorial service will be held on Friday, December 6, 2013, 11:00 A.M. at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Alexandria. Burial will be at Hillcrest Cemetery in Granite Falls, Minnesota at a later date.
