Palmer Gordon Bergner Jr. was born on March 17, 1939, in Starbuck, MN to Esther (Stahl) and Palmer Bergner Sr. He was baptized at East Moe and confirmed at Carlos Lutheran Church. Palmer graduated the class of 1957, from Central High School in Alexandria. He spent four years in the U.S. Air Force.
On November 21, 1964, he was united in marriage to Jalaine Zaviska at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alexandria. To this union the couple was blessed with two sons and two daughters. Palmer enjoyed vegetable gardening, planting flowers, doing yard work, feeding the birds, fishing, music, playing cards, especially liking sports and playing in the Resorters and baseball. He worked at Alexandria Concrete and Alexandria Light and Power for years and then as an Insurance Adjuster for Red Wing, Fergus Falls and Dakota areas.
Palmer died on Monday, January 1, 2018, at Knute Nelson at the age of 78. He is survived by his wife, Jalaine Bergner of Alexandria; sons, Jeff (Jennifer) Bergner of Valley City, ND, Scott Bergner of Alexandria; daughters, Paula Bergner of Alexandria and Shelly (Ron) Nelson of Alexandria; grandchildren, Jason Winge, Kaityln Bergner, Shayla, Britton and Drayven Nelson; brothers, Charles (Jeanne) Bergner of Red Wing, James (Debra) Bergner of Olathe, KS; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Palmer was preceded in death by his parents, Palmer and Esther; and sister-in-law, Sandy Bergner.
A Funeral Service will be held 11:00 AM on Thursday, January 4, 2018, at the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria. Visitation will be held from 4-6 PM Wednesday, January 3, 2018, at the Anderson Funeral Home and for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Thursday. Interment will be held at White Garden Cemetery. Military Honors will be provided by the VFW Post 936 and the American Legion Post 87.
