Patrick Darrington, age 81, of Alexandria, formerly of Montevideo, died on Tuesday, August 19th, 2014.
Patrick David Darrington was born on April 13, 1933 in Sisseton, SD to Harold and Esther (Elvin) Darrington. He graduated from High School in Peaver, SD the class of 1952. Pat enlisted in the Navy and served during the Korean War. He and his two brothers served on the same ship the USS Waldron. Pat was also aboard the USS Prichett and was awarded the Korean War Medal, UN Medal, National Defense Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.
When Pat returned home from his service he worked for the Milwaukee Road Railroad in Montevideo, MN as a fireman. In 1982, he went to work for the Burlington Northern Railroad in Aberdeen, SD as a brakeman and retired in 1994. Pat then built a house on Lake Latoka in Alexandria and moved there in 1995. He kept busy mowing the grass at the Carlos Creek Winery and helped others garden.
Pat enjoyed keeping up with his perfect lawn which was his pride and joy, gardening, sitting on the dock watching the loons, dancing, listening to polka and old time music, and spending time with family, especially the grandchildren.
Pat died on Tuesday, August 19, 2014 at his home in Alexandria at the age of 81. He is survived by his son, who Pat called “Little Buddy” David (Kathie) Darrington of Roberts, WI; daughters, “Little Bear” Michelle (fiancANLGAC., Brian Riebe) Wirth of Hudson, WI; and “Charlie” Elizabeth (Joseph) Cook of Eden Valley; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren; brother, Mike (Bette) Darrington of Montevideo; many nieces and nephews; and special friend, Sylvia Davids of Alexandria. Pat is preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Esther; brother, Tom and sister, Lily Mae.
A funeral service will be held 11 AM on Wednesday, August 27, 2014 at Calvary Lutheran Church in Alexandria with visitation one hour prior to the service. Visitation will be from 4-6 PM on Tuesday at the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria on Wednesday. Interment will be 2:30 PM on Wednesday, August 27, 2014 at Terrace Lawn Cemetery in Montevideo, MN with Military Honors.
