OBITUARY
Paul Arvid Carlson was born on September 27, 1922 in St. Paul, MN to Arvid and Annie (Emanuelson) Carlson. Paul was baptized and confirmed at First Covenant Church in St. Paul, MN. He graduated from Johnson High School in the Class of 1940. After high school Paul enlisted into the United States Army. He served three years overseas in France and central Europe as a Sergeant. Paul came home to St. Paul after the service and began working for 3M at their distribution center. He retired after 43 years in 1983.
Paul married the love of his life, Ruth Hansen on May 17, 1947 at Arlington Hills Lutheran Church in St. Paul. Together they raised two children Richard and Jeffrey, living in St. Paul. Paul was involved with church’s youth group, men’s club, and dartball
Paul was an experienced carpenter. He built four homes during his life including his retirement home in Spooner, WI. He liked spending time outside bow hunting, and fishing. Paul also liked trips to Las Vegas, the Black Hills, and Yellowstone National Park. Family reunions and spending time with his grandchildren Todd and Jodi were always good memories for Paul. Paul was an easy going man who loved children. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Paul A. Carlson died on Thursday, September 4, 2014 at the Douglas County Hospital at the age of 91 years old. He is survived by his son, Jeffrey and wife Arnice Carlson of Alexandria; daughter-in-law Vicky Carlson of St. Paul; grandchildren Todd and wife Diane Carlson and Jodi and husband Brad Marcus; step grandchildren JoAnne Hyatt, Donald and wife Mandy Hyatt, and Renee and husband Matthew Jordan; great grandchildren Brandon Marcus and Kelsey Marcus; step great grandchildren Nicole and husband Jesse Tennis, Tony Swanson, Kurt Hyatt, and Felicia and Jay Jordan; step great great grandchildren Izabelle and Avery Tennis; sister Helen Pariseau of St. Paul and brother Willard Carlson of Ely, MN. Paul was preceded in death by his wife Ruth Carlson, son Richard Carlson, parents Arvid and Annie Carlson, and brothers Ben, Elmer, and Harold.
A funeral service was held on Tuesday, September 9, 2014 at Arlington Hills Lutheran Church in St. Paul, MN. Interment was in Forest Lawn Memorial Park in St. Paul. Casket Bearers were Todd Carlson, Brad Marcus, Brandon Marcus, Kelsey Marcus, Don Hyatt, Tony Swanson, and Jesse Tennis.
