Pearl Ione (Hughes) Dombovy was born on August 15, 1923 in Wayzata, Minnesota to William and Bertha (Heidelberger) Hughes. She grew up on a farm near Wayzata and attended school through the eighth grade. Her and her foster brother Leo enjoyed being daredevils and driving through the fields. Pearl was trained as a welder during the war but never perused that as a career. On August 21, 1941 Pearl was united in marriage to Vince Dombovy at the Parkers Lake Methodist Church in Plymouth. Pearl worked at Honeywell in the thermostat department for 41 years. In 1984, Pearl moved to Women Lake near Hackensack where they built a home. She then moved to Birchview Gardens in Hackensack and in 2012 Pearl moved to Edgewood Vista in Alexandria. Pearl liked to dance, shop, cook, and her sweets including Schwann?s Ice Cream. She belonged to a card club for 50 years. Pearl enjoyed traveling and traveled many places in the U.S. and two trips to Europe with Vince and other friends. She loved the hummingbirds and having neighbors over as she always had coffee and cookies ready. She was a very nurturing person and took care of everyone else, including taking care of her husband at home, for 10 years with Alzheimer?s. Pearl died on Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at Edgewood Vista in Alexandria at the age of 90. She is survived by her foster brother, Leo (Carol) Franklin of Duluth; nieces, Sharon (Lynden) Nelson of Park Rapids, Carol (Darrell) Evenson of Plymouth, Nancy (Curly) Carlson of Garfield, Marcia Etzel of Aberdeen, WA, Susan (Jack) Donovan of Maple Grove, Virginia Etzel of Brooklyn Park, and Lisa (Steve) Jensen of Brooklyn Park; nephews, Robert Etzel of Colton, OR and Ken Etzel of Maple Lake, MN; niece-in-law, Patricia Etzel of St. Michael; and many great nieces and nephews. Pearl is preceded in death by her parents, William and Bertha; husband, Vince; sisters, Norma Etzel and Lorraine Kinney; nephews, Richard Etzel and William Etzel Jr. A memorial service will be held 11:00 AM on Thursday, June 12, 2014 at the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Thursday. Arrangements are with the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria
