Phyllis Louise Halvorson was born April 27, 1947 in Appleton, MN, the daughter of Hjalmar and Leona (Kashmark) Halvorson. She was raised in Appleton when she attended school. Following her graduation Phyllis moved to La Junta, CO for about two years where she was treated for asthma. While there, she began working at the National Jewish Hospital and was training as a lab technician. She returned to Minnesota and attended the Alexandria Technical College where she completed her education as a lab technician.
Phyllis moved to Wheaton, MN where she began working. She met James Schoenrock and the two were married on June 25, 1976 in Wheaton. They were blessed with two children, Josh and Sarah. In 1984 the family moved to Alexandria in 1985 where Jim began a maintenance business and Phyllis did daycare.
Phyllis enjoyed crocheting and doing jigsaw puzzles. Phyllis loved music and played the piano. Gospel music was her favorite and she was active for many years in St. Mary's Choir. Phyllis cherished her family and lived for the time spent with her children and grandchildren.
On Saturday, September 10, 2016, following many years of declining health Phyllis died at the age of sixty-nine years. She was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Mark and Bob Halvorson. Phyllis is survived by her children. Josh Schoenrock and fiancé, Lexi Massmann, of Alexandria and Sarah Schoenrock and friend, Steve Gadbaw, of Alexandria; three grandchildren, Lizzy, Jaxon, and Jayce Schoenrock; four brothers, John Halvorson and wife, Betty, of Monticello, MN, Rod Halvorson of St. Paul, MN, Hjalmar Halvorson and wife, Karen, of Big Stone, SD and Michael Halvorson and wife, Shaylene, of Ortonville, MN; and two sisters, Mickey Christensen and husband, Tom, of Janesville, MN and Wendy Steuck of Chokio, MN.
A funeral service will be held 10:30 AM Saturday, September 17, 2016 at the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria. Rev. Wayne Erickson will officiate. Interment will follow in the Appleton City Cemetery at Appleton, MN. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 PM Friday and also from 9:30 to 10:30 AM Saturday at the funeral home. Arrangements are with the Anderson Funeral Home.
