Quentin Eugene Gahlon was born on December 29, 1948, in Rochester, MN, the son of Eugene and Gladys (Thorpe) Gahlon. He graduated from Parkers Prairie High School in the class of 1966 and then began working for Blacks Plumbing and Heating in Carlos, MN. Butch married Nancy Opdahl on January 13, 1968 in Minneapolis, MN. Together they raised two children Christina and Chad. In 1974 Butch began his own plumbing and heating business in Carlos, Butch?s Plumbing and Heating. He was also very active in the Carlos community. He was the former police chief, city councilman, and mayor for 12 years of Carlos, MN. He was a volunteer fireman and a charter member of the Carlos Lions Club. Butch had many hobbies including woodworking, hunting, and ice fishing. He also grew vegetables in his garden, by overseeing his wife and children tending to his plants. After his retirement Butch liked to take rides throughout Minnesota and Canada to visit friends and relatives. Visiting was one thing he loved to do. Butch seemed to know someone everywhere he went. He liked traveling to Duluth, MN and enjoyed watching the ships come and go through the harbor he was also a very dedicated NASCAR fan. Butch was a kind and loving husband, father, grandfather and friend with a good sense of humor. He was a prankster and liked to tease his granddaughters with cute nicknames. He took pride in teaching his wife, children and granddaughters how to hunt and enjoy the outdoors. He will be missed by those who knew and loved him. Quentin E. Gahlon died on Thursday, October 9, 2008 at the Douglas County Hospital at the age of 59. He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years Nancy Gahlon of Parkers Prairie, MN; daughter Christina and Jeff Tvrdik of Alexandria; son Chad Gahlon of Parkers Prairie, MN; granddaughters Kathleen, Lisa, and Alison Tvrdik all of Alexandria; brother Leroy and Sharon Kingston of Parkers Prairie, MN; nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; brother Raymond Kingston; and a nephew Daniel Kingston. A Memorial Service was held on Monday, October 13, 2008 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Carlos, MN with the Reverend Robert Petersen and Lay Minister Philip Petersen officiating. Organ music was provided by Joan Petersen and the soloist was Mary Duberowski.
