Ramona Martha Zimmel was born March 16, 1932 in Belle River, MN, the daughter of Andrew and Dorthea (Muyres) Zimmel. She was raised in Belle River and attended school at District 41 country school. Ramona graduated from Central High School in Alexandria in 1949.
She began working as a bookkeeper for Westinghouse in Alexandria. On April 26, 1954 Ramona was united in marriage to Leslie Radil at the St. Nicholas Church in Belle River. Les was serving in the Army and was stationed in Washington, D.C where Ramona joined him. After one year in Washington, Les was discharged, and the couple moved to the Radil home farm in Lake Mary Township. The couple was blessed with five children.
Ramona raised her children to be hard workers. She did whatever she could to make her home better for Les and her children. Ramona kept a large flower and vegetable garden. She canned her produce to feed her family. Baking was a skill she excelled in; her family loved the bread and apple pies she baked. Nobody could make better buns than Ramona. She also provided for her family by sewing and patching, crocheting and doing embroidery work. She has passed many of these skills on to her grandchildren.
Ramona also volunteered her time to the American Legion Women's Auxiliary in Lowry, MN and served the Lake Mary Town Board. She was active in St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church and volunteered herself for the various guild offices.
On Wednesday, February 15, 2017 Ramona died at the age of eighty-four years.
