Randy Allen Mickelson was born July 21, 1951 in Bertha, MN, the son of Henry and Charlotte (Truax) Mickelson. His family settled in Alexandria, MN, where he grew up and graduated from high school in 1969 and met the love of his life, Laura Amundson, waterskiing on Lake Le Homme Dieu.
The couple maintained a long-distance relationship while Randy completed his college degree in graphic arts in Saint Cloud, MN. Then he began his forty-six year career in the printing business as a job engineer in Fargo, ND, and later in Eden Prairie, MN. Randy and Laura were married on May 26, 1973 and were blessed with three children who they raised in both West Fargo, ND, and Savage, MN. He was a proud father and devoted husband who coached numerous sports teams and supported many educational endeavors. He kept active with hobbies and sports including softball, basketball, fishing, bowling, golf, furniture finishing, automotive repair, and countless home improvement projects.
Upon retirement in 2017, Randy and Laura enjoyed spending winters with close friends near South Padre Island, TX, and summers with family at the lake home in Alexandria, MN.
Randy was sadly diagnosed with glioblastoma brain cancer in 2022 which he fought wholeheartedly. The family rallied together, and despite the prognosis, spent more quality time creating memories fishing, boating, waterskiing, golfing, watching Minnesota sports teams, and traveling during the nearly two and a half years while undergoing treatments.
He fell asleep peacefully in the hands of the Lord at the family lake home with his wife, son, and two daughters on August 7, 2024. His love for family and friends, his endless energy, and his smile is dearly missed. Our memories of him will live on in the legacy he created.
Randy leaves behind his devoted wife of 51 years, Laura; children, Christopher (Alison) Mickelson; Sarah (Elias) Bazakos; Lisa (Derek) Walgrave; brother, Jake (Emily) Mickelson; mother-in-law, Ruth Amundson; brothers-in-law, Ross (Brenda) Amundson, Norm Fahlin, and Norm Neuerburg; sister-in-law, Jan Mickelson; eleven grandchildren, Matthew, Ethan, Thomas, and Ava Mickelson, Sophia and Amalia Bazakos, and Chase, Josie, Eli, Olivia, and Isaac Walgrave.
He was preceded in death by his parents Henry and Charlotte Mickelson; sisters, Jan Neuerburg and Mary Fahlin; brother, Larry Mickelson; father-in-law, Erwin Amundson.
