Raymond Bruns

Raymond John Bruns, age 80, of Evansville, died April 18, 2010 after a short battle with brain cancer. He was born on April 17, 1930 in St. Kilian MN to Joseph Bruns and Clara Schlichte. He married Ora Loosbrock on September 26, 1950 at St. Kilian Catholic Church, St. Kilian, MN. Ray farmed near Evansville and also owned his own plumbing business for many years. He was an active member of St. Ann?s Catholic Church in Brandon since 1957. During this period he gave his time, talent and resources to many activities of the church and community. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Catholic Foresters, Catholic Aid Association, Pork Producers, and Community Club of Evansville. Ray loved to hunt, fish, and play sports. He enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren play sports, and especially enjoyed deer hunting with his family. Ray also spent the last 11 years wintering in Cathedral City, CA. He also volunteered at the community with many activities in CA including shuffle boarding and coordinating the pancake breakfast. He was preceded in death by his parents, infant daughter, Cheryl, step-father William Gerber, and two brothers Melvin (Brother Urban) and Alver. Ray is survived by his loving wife, Ora of 59 years, his children: Cathy (Doug) Herold of Waubay SD, Mary (Jerry) Yunger of Maple Grove, MN, Linda Nokes of Parkers Prairie, MN, Donna (Jeffrey) Morgan of Tucson, AZ, Gerald (Tammy) Bruns of Evansville, MN, Richard (Wendy) Bruns of Weston, WI, Daniel (Michelle) Bruns of Tijeras, NM, and Therese (Rick) Butterfield of Anoka, MN; 21 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his brother, Don (Louise) Bruns, and sisters: Inez Balster, Lorraine Balster, Eileen Hibma and Nelma Slater. The family would like to extend its appreciation to Knute Nelson Nursing Home and Douglas County Hospice for their excellent care. The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Douglas County Hospice, American Cancer Society, or a charity of your choice. Parish Prayer Service was held on Friday, April 23, 2010, 7:30 p.m. and a Knights of Columbus Rosary at 8:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial was held on Saturday, April 24, 2010, 10:30 a.m. at St. Ann?s Catholic Church in Brandon. Honorary Pallbearers were his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
