Raymond Schulz was born on January 1, 1933, in Garfield, Minnesota, the son of Robert and Lucy (Schoeneck) Schulz. He attended schools in Alexandria and enlisted into the United States Army at age 17. Ray served his country in Korea and was Honorably Discharged on August 15, 1952. During his time in Korea he was injured and awarded the Bronze Star for his service. On October 17, 1953, Raymond was united in marriage to Carol Ann Johnson at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Holmes City. After their marriage the couple moved to Alexandria where they raised their two children, Jullie and Jon. For many years Ray and Carol operated a hobby farm east of Alexandria and later moved into Alexandria where Ray worked as the agent for Farmer?s Insurance Group. Upon retirement the couple moved to the Brainerd area and after Carol?s death in 2010, Ray moved to the Blaine area to be closer to his children. Ray was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church and was very active during his time in Alexandria with the VFW and American Legion. Ray died on March 23, 2013, at the Sterling House Assisted Living Center in Blaine at the age of 80 years. He is survived by his children Jullie (Mike) Yager of Woodbury, Jon (Dolores) Schulz of Andover, grandchildren Emily and Julia, brother Magnus Schulz of Arizona and sister Arlene Lanning of Alexandria. Ray was preceded in death by his parents and brother Lawrence. Memorial services will be held on Friday, March 29, 2013, at the Anderson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. William Moeller officiating. Visitation will be for 90 minutes prior to the service. Burial will be at the Minnesota State Veteran?s Cemetery at Camp Ripley.
