Richard, the second of eight children born to Ernest and Marie (Pommerening) Bahe, was born near Elrosa, Minnesota on August 21, 1928. He was baptized and confirmed at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Belgrade. He attended a one-room country school for eight years and then Belgrade High School where he graduated in 1945. After staying out of school and working for a year, Richard enrolled at Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa, where he received his Bachelor of Arts Degree with a major in New Testament Greek, in 1950. In the fall of that year he entered Wartburg Theological Seminary in Dubuque, Iowa. After completing requirements for the Master of Divinity Degree and a year of internship at St. Stephen?s Lutheran Church in Wausau, Wisconsin, he was ordained at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Belgrade on June 13, 1954. Richard was united in marriage to Mary Ann Reyelts at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Rock Rapids, Iowa on June 21, 1952. Together they became the parents of six children. Following his ordination, with Mary Ann at his side, Richard served congregations in Rosthern/Hague, Saskatchewan, Canada; rural Marshfield, Wisconsin; rural Tama/Marshalltown, Iowa; Raymond, Minnesota; Sherwood/rural Kenmare, North Dakota; and New Leipzig, North Dakota. He retired from full time active parish ministry the end of August, 1993. Upon retirement, Richard and Mary Ann moved to their new home on the east shores of Lake Burgen, near Alexandria. During his retirement years, Richard served several interims at Shalom Lutheran Church in Alexandria, six years as part-time chaplain at the Hoffman Good Samaritan Care Center in Hoffman, and conducted Sunday supply services in approximately 60 different congregations throughout the west-central Minnesota area. Richard died at his home on Saturday, May 3, 2014. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Mary Ann; six children: David (Terri) Bahe of Washburn, WI; Judy Bahe of Bismarck, ND; Ruth Bahe-Jachna (Roger) of Hammond, IN; Susan Bahe of Lakota, ND; Alan (Lisa) Bahe of Pierre SD; Gail Bahe of Bismarck, ND; brothers: Henry & William (Dorothy) of Alexandria; six granddaughters: Sarah, Michelle, Kristen, Alissa, Samantha, Chantal Lewis; grandson, Brodie; several nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, three sisters. Funeral services were held on Friday, May 9, 2014, 11:00 a.m. at Shalom Lutheran Church in Alexandria.
