Richard H. Brandt age 75 of Alexandria formerly of St. Cloud died on Tuesday, March 17, 2015 at his home. A Memorial Service will be held 7:00 PM on Monday, March 23, 2015 at the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the Funeral Home.
Richard Harry Brandt was born on November 22, 1939 in St. Cloud, MN to Leonard and Monica (Vorgert) Brandt. He graduated from St. Cloud Tech High School and enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. Richard served his country from 1958 – 1961 as a translator and was fluent in Russian and German.
On June 19, 1965, Richard married Joan Schuldt in Clear Lake, MN. They lived in Blaine and he worked as a sorter at the Post Office in Minneapolis. The couple was blessed with two children, Carol and Gerry. The family moved to Staples in 1974, where he owned JD’s Bar. He later moved to Rice, Sioux Falls and then in 2007 moved to Alexandria.
Richard enjoyed fishing, hunting, woodworking, reading, drawing pictures, jigsaw and doing crossword puzzles. He loved to have “Chelsey” come visit and go out to the cabin.
Richard died on Tuesday, March 17, 2015 at his home at the age of 75. He is survived by his daughter, Carol (friend, Steve McCarthy) Goodin of Minnetonka; son, Gerry Brandt of Brooklyn Center; grandchildren, Tiffany, Nichole, Christine and Jessica Brandt; and ten great-grandchildren. Richard is preceded in death by his son, Danny Brandt; parents, Leonard and Monica; brother, Michael Brandt; and sister, LaVerne Rau.
