Richard Carter

Richard ?Dick? Allen Carter was born on December 29, 1941 in Lowry, Minnesota to Leonard and Elizabeth (Zavadil) Carter. He attended country school near Forada and Union Lake. Dick graduated in 1959 the first class to graduate from Jefferson High School in Alexandria. Dick drove milk truck for his Dad and farmed. He also helped as a substitute mail carrier. In 1969, Dick went to work for Alexandria Extrusion as a truck driver and retired in 2004 after 35 years. Dick was united in marriage to Geraldine ?Gerry? Norstebon on September 26, 1981 in Alexandria. The couple made their home near Lake Union. Dick had many hobbies such as farming, woodworking and crafts, fishing, hunting, sports, especially the Twins and Vikings, watching birds, working in the yard, going for drives, and going to the casino. He also enjoyed collecting tractors, cookie jars, and small hit and miss gasoline engines. Dick also was good for many laughs as he enjoyed playing pranks on people. Most of all he loved visiting people, going to parties, reunions and having family and friends over to their home which there was always an open door. Dick died on Friday, October 28, 2011 at Essentia Health in Fargo, ND at the age of 69. He is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Gerry; step-children, LaVonne (Randy) Bruun of Alexandria, Judy (Douglas) Larson of Lake Park, Susan (Randy) Abers of Osakis, Richard Norstebon of Layton, UT and Robert (Margaret) Norstebon of Keller, TX; 11 step-grandchildren; 10 step-great-grandchildren; sister, Jeanne (Eddie) Hines of St. Paul; uncle, Frank Zavadil of Alexandria; and several nieces and nephews. Dick is preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Elizabeth; brother, Dennis Carter; and many aunts and uncles. A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Wednesday, November 2, 2011 at St. John Nepomuk in Reno Township with Father Roger Thoennes officiating. Music was provided by Kim Byrne, organist and Janice Doebber, soloist and duet by Jeanne Hines and Janie Hanson. Interment was held in Hudson Cemetery in Alexandria. Casket bearers were Robert Norstebon, Richard Norstebon, Tom Halverson, Duane ?Dewey? Marusak, Christopher Larson, and Charles Bollen. Honorary casket bearers were all of Dick?s faithful friends. Arrangements are with the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria.
