Richard “Dick” Greengo of Alexandria passed away at age 91 on December 29, 2024. He was born May 17th 1933 to Mary Luella (Lair) and Wilton Greengo in Glenville, MN.
Dick attended Albert Lea High School and graduated in 1951. While in School Dick participated in Football, Wrestling, and Track and Field. He received a Football Scholarship from the University of North Dakota and attended and played football at UND for three years. In 1954 Dick enlisted in the US Army completing basic training in Fort Riley Kansas. He served his country until his honorable discharge in 1956.
On June 3rd, 1956 he married Arleen “Lollie” Ellenbecker at the United Methodist Church in Fairmont, MN. He then attended Mankato State University to complete his college degree. He graduated in 1958 with degrees in Art, Physical Education, and Business.
Dick accepted a teaching position in Alexandria, MN in 1958. He taught High School Art and coached multiple sports. A Significant accomplishment took place in 1959 when he started the Alexandria High School Wrestling program. For the next twelve years he coached many successful teams and individuals. Assistant coaches were Chuck Krump, Ted Lohrman, and Jim Perdue. During this time Dick and Lollie had three children; Paul, Jack, and Martha. In 1969 the newly founded Alexandria Technical School offered him the job of Commercial Art Instructor. Dick taught Commercial Art until 1982 when he accepted the job of Trade and Industry Coordinator. He served in this role at the Alexandria Technical School until his retirement in 1990.
A Natural talent for art was discovered at a young age. Dick used this talent in many of his lifetime activities. He hand lettered many signs for businesses and organizations over the years. He also created beautiful wood carvings, particularly geese, ducks, and fish. He was an active member of the United Methodist Church, serving on many boards and teaching Sunday School. Golf was an activity he truly enjoyed. Dick and his Family had a membership at the Alexandria Golf Club for 49 years. Twice he won the Senior Club Championship.
Dick is survived by his wife of 68 years Arleen “Lollie”, son Paul, son Jack (Michelle), and Grandson Gavin. He is also survived by Skip Smith, brother-in-law, and Marsha Smith sister-in-law, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughter Martha Lynn Greengo, his parents, two siblings in infancy, his twin brother, Roger, two sisters, Mary Jane and LoJean, and brother-in-law Micky Ellenbecker.

A special thanks to Moments Hospice for the exceptional comforting care given to Dick in his final days. You are all much appreciated. Memorials can be made to Alexandria United Methodist Church or Alexandria Education Foundation.
Funeral Services will be on Friday, January 3, 2025, 1:00 PM at the Alexandria United Methodist Church with visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at Kinkead Cemetery.
