Richard George Jensen was born on May 10, 1931, in Warren, Minnesota to parents George and Lottie (Krolak) Jensen. He graduated from high school in Warren. He spent three years in the armed services, Signal-Corp, from 1951-1954 (19 months in Korea). He was awarded an Honorable Discharge as Staff Sargeant. He graduated from Minnesota State University in Moorhead, with teaching degrees in Math and History. He taught High School for 30 years of which 13 years were in Gonvick, Minnesota and 17 years in Cannon Falls, MN. He was nominated teacher of the year two times. He taught Sunday School at Samhold Lutheran Church in Gonvick and at Vasa Lutheran Church in Vasa. On October 27, 1951, Richard married Lorraine Rinkenberger at Kingo Lutheran Church in Fosston, MN. He and his family visited any State Parks and National Parks throughout his lifetime. Richard and Lorraine traveled in every State in the USA including Hawaii and Alaska. They also traveled in all the Canadian Providences bordering the USA and several States in Mexico. After his retirement, Richard and Lorraine backpacked the Appalachian Trail from Georgia to Maine which was 2,147 miles. They joined a medical team and made five mission trips to Nicaragua with them, also went on mission trips three times into Mexico with work crews. They were snow birds for fifteen years, spending time in Texas, Mississippi and New Mexico. Richard died on Thursday, February 20, 2014, at the age of 82 at his home. He is survived by his wife, Lorraine; children: Robert (wife, Beth), Joy; grandchildren: Anna (husband, Mark), Rebecah, Sarah, Maria; great grandson, William; sister, Verna. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Raymond, Elmer, Ralph, and William; sister, Luella. Funeral services were held on Monday, February 24, 2014, 1:00 PM at St. Paul?s Lutheran Church in rural Holmes City.
