Richard Allen Julseth was born on October 14, 1942, to Gordon and Sylvia (Erickson) Julseth. He was baptized and confirmed at Chippewa Lutheran Church in Brandon. Richard attended Evansville High School, graduating in 1960. While in high school he worked for a neighbor doing custom combining, work that took him throughout the southern United States. Following high school, he enlisted in the United States Navy for four years. Richard was a mail carrier in the Navy and was stationed on the east coast. After leaving the Navy, Richard worked for about 40 years as a senior chief engineer working on iron ore ships for the United States Steel Corporation on the Great Lakes. When on leave, he enjoyed helping family and neighbors back home combine their fields.
Richard loved snowmobiling, fishing, wood crafts, and fixing motors and engines. He also enjoyed cutting firewood and inventing things. Richard was a good son, brother, uncle, and friend. He was deeply loved and will be greatly missed.
Richard died on Thursday, December 28, 2017, at his home at the age of 75. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, John and Martha Julseth, and Lorin Erickson and Mabel Erickson Carlson; parents, Gordon and Sylvia Julseth; uncle, Walter Julseth; aunt and uncle, Irene and Andrew Larson; cousin, John Larson; and great nephew, Andy Julseth. Richard is survived by his brothers, Norman (Lana) Julseth of Inver Grove Heights, Wallace Julseth of Alexandria; and Warren Julseth of Alexandria; sisters, Barbara Wagner of Alexandria, Carol (Kerry) Holmberg of Brandon, and Audrey Julseth of Carlos; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; and very special friend, Carol Winter of Battle Lake.
A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at 11 AM at the Anderson Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the Anderson Funeral Home on Wednesday. Inurnment will be in Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
