Richard Michael Kephart was born on December 15, 1952, in Brainerd, MN to Phillip and Selma (Diamond) Kephart. The family moved to Alexandria when Richard was in the 6th grade. He graduated from Jefferson High School in Alexandria. Richard worked for a time at Bellanca Aircraft as the head of the painting department. He then learned cabinetry from his brother Edward, mastered the trade and eventually took over the business. Lake Country Cabinets served the Lakes Area for close to 30 years.
Rich was a rugged outdoorsman with remarkable knowledge on hunting, fishing, trapping, plants, animals and terrain. He lived out his passion for the outdoors accompanied by his friends, family and well trained bird dogs. Rich’s faith in God was unwavering; and he was a man of strong conviction who stayed true to himself and to his values until the very last day. Rich cherished his Bible and attended House of Prayer Church.
Rich passed away on Monday, May 7, 2018, at Bethany on the Lake in Alexandria at the age of 65. He is survived by his son, Jesse (Heather) Kephart of Coon Rapids, MN; daughters, Emily (Rod) McDowell of Buffalo, MN; and Kalee (Steve) Taylor of Denver, CO; six grandchildren; sisters, Michelle (John) Friese of Surprise, AZ, Marcia (Steve) Whitley of Forsyth, MO, and sister-in-law, Blossom Kephart of Alexandria, MN; and many nieces and nephews.
