Richard Konrad was born June 27, 1943 in Chicago, IL, the son of Gustav and Helene Konrad. Richard was raised in Chicago where he graduated from high school. Following his schooling Richard joined the United States Air Force while in the Air Force he learned aircraft mechanics and served as an aircraft mechanic. In 1964 Richard was united in marriage to Solveig Orlikowski in Chicago. Following his discharge from the Air Force the couple moved to the Twin Cities. They were blessed with two children, Lisa and Peter. Richard began work as mechanic for North Central Airlines. Through mergers the airline was later known as Republic and then Northwest Airlines. In 2001 Richard retired from Northwest. Richard built three homes, the last one on Prior Lake. In the late 1990?s Richard and Solveig bought a small place of the west side of Block Lake in Otter Tail County. Later they purchased the resort on the east side of Block Lake and made it there permanent home. Richard liked working with his hands. He loved working on old cars. Music was also something Richard loved. He sang in his church choir in the Twin Cities. After moving to Block Lake he joined Calvary Lutheran church in Alexandria. He loved going to choir practice at Calvary. Richard was a people person;? he loved spending time meeting new people, visiting with them and learning about their lives. He was a member of the Masonic Constellation Lodge in Alexandria and the Osman Shrine Temple in Minneapolis. Richard battled with liver cancer. He fought this battle with his children; they spent as much time as possible caring for their father in his final months. Richard was very proud of his children. On Tuesday, May 3, 2011 Richard died at the age of sixty-seven years. His wife, Solveig and his parents preceded him in death. Richard is survived by his Son Peter Konrad of Effington Township, MN; his daughter, Lisa Notch and husband, Steve, of Rosemount, MN; and six grandchildren, Anthony Notch, Clayton Notch, Emily Notch, Alexander Konrad, Anna Konrad and Nevaeh Konrad. A funeral service will be held at 11 AM Saturday, May 7, 2011 at Calvary Lutheran Church in Alexandria. Reverend John Martinson will officiate. Lisa Notch and Kim Byrne will provide music. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at church. Arrangements are with the Anderson Funeral Home.
