Richard Gordon Petersen was born on September 8, 1939 in Minneapolis, MN to Richard Clarence and Lola (Leonardson) Petersen. He graduated from Patrick-Henry High School in Minneapolis, MN in 1957. Richard married Janice Carney on August 16, 1958 in Minneapolis. The couple made their home in Brooklyn Center. To this union, the couple was blessed with two sons. Richard worked as a salesman for Prudential Insurance for twenty-five years. The couple retired in 1994 and moved to Alexandria. Richard went back to work as a salesman at Juettner Motors for three years and drove school bus for the Alexandria School District, which he continued until last fall. Richard enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing and woodworking. He also enjoyed visits from his friends and family. Richard died on Wednesday, November 28 2012 at his home in Alexandria at the age of 73. He is survived by sons, Tim (Cher) Petersen of Brooklyn Center and Mark (Shari) Petersen of Alexandria; grandchildren, Nathan Petersen, Renee (Brandon) Sneen, Tara Petersen, Trent Petersen, Cassidy Petersen and Mallory Petersen; great-grandchildren, Landon Sneen and Mason Sneen. Richard is preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Lola; wife, Jan; and sister, Carol Newman. A memorial service was held on Tuesday, December 4, 2012 at the Alexandria Covenant Church in Alexandria with Reverend John LeVahn officiating. Music was provided by soloists, Stephanie Effertz and Cassidy Petersen. Honorary urn bearers were Richard?s grandchildren. Arrangements are with the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria
