Obituary Richard was born on April 3, 1922 on the east side of Lake Rachel at the farm where Verna Peterson now lives. He is the son of Carl Oscar and Mamie (Heikkinen) Peterson. He attended school in Holmes City until 1934 when he and his family moved to the west side of Lake Rachel. He then attended the Oscar Lake country school. Richard stayed at home and farmed with his father. In 1949 he married Betty Morse in Glenwood, MN. In 1955 he quit farming and moved to Minneapolis, MN where he started working for the Unipress Company. After his retirement he and Betty moved back to Alexandria in October of 1982. They once again became members of Trinity Lutheran Church in Holmes City. Richard helped Betty volunteer time at the Clothes Closet. He also liked to go hunting and fishing. He loved to read and go out for noon lunches. Richard loved his grandchildren and enjoyed swimming with them. He also loved cars, tractors and his Lutheran Faith. He will be missed by those who knew and loved him. Richard H. Peterson died on Saturday December 11, 2010 at Knute Nelson at the age of 88 years. He is survived by his wife Betty Peterson of Alexandria; son Larry (Donna) Peterson of Prior Lake, MN; daughters Diane (Dan) Ernewein of Glenwood; Peggy (Greg) Twiford of Wayzata; son-in-law Gary Burggraff of Sarasota, FL; 12 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; sister Olga Simonson of Grand Rapids; three nieces, one nephew, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Patricia Burggraff, and granddaughter Shantell Burggraff. A funeral service was held on Thursday, December 16, 2010 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Holmes City, MN with the Reverend Denise Croskey officiating. Interment was in the Rose Hill Cemetery. Casket Bearers were Aaron Huber, Eric Huber, James Larson, Shane Burggraff, Michael Peterson, and Brian Peterson. Honorary Casket Bearer was Verna Peterson.
