Richard Schuneman

Richard R. Schuneman was born on December 28, 1936 in Alexandria, MN, the son of Charles and Clara (Roth) Schuneman. Richard grew up in Belle River Township where he attended country school before graduating from Central High School in Alexandria. He enlisted into the United States Army from 1957 to 1959 and returned home to farm. Richard married Gloria Hoaglund on February 8, 1963 in Sisseton, SD. Together they had two children Scott and JoAnn. Richard farmed until 1972 and then began working at 3M in Alexandria until his retirement in December of 1996. Richard and his family moved to rural Alexandria in 1975, where he tended to his beautiful garden and enjoyed the outdoors. He also liked to hunt and fish in his spare time. He enjoyed golfing, making bird feeders, and cutting wood for the stove. Richard had a great sense of humor that could always bring a smile to one?s face. He loved children and liked to tease and play with them. Richard had a welcoming personality and loved to visit with friends and strangers the same. Richard was a kind and loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He will be missed by those who knew and loved him. Richard Roland Schuneman died on Tuesday, March 25, 2008 at his home at the age of 71. He is survived by his wife Gloria Schuneman of Alexandria, MN; son Scott (Jeannie) Schuneman of St. Joseph, MN; daughter JoAnn (Allen) Dahlen of Grand Forks, ND; grandchildren Shannon (Matthew) Prom of St. Joseph, MN; Matthew Dahlen of Minneapolis, MN; Joshua Dahlen of Grand Forks, ND; great grandchildren Trinity and Sophie Prom of St. Joseph, MN; brothers Harlan (Lillian) Schuneman of Carlos, MN; Merle (Barbara) Schuneman of Carlos, MN; sisters Dorothy (Robert) Pederson of Miltona, MN; Eleanor (Dean) Yohnke of Carlos, MN; sister-in-law Irene (Schuneman) Tvrdik of Alexandria, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother George Schuneman. A funeral service was held on Saturday, March 29, 2008 at Zion Lutheran Church with the Reverend Terry Finnern officiating. JoNette Brogaard played the organ and Allen Dahlen and James Dahlen sang a duet. Interment was in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Carlos, MN. Casket Bearers were Joshua Dahlen, Matthew Dahlen, Matthew Prom, Connor Schuneman, Bennett Schuneman, and Timothy Collins. Honorary Casket Bearers were Trinity Prom, Sophie Prom, and all of Richard?s nieces and nephews. Arrangements are with the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria.
