Robert F. Grossman was born on June 9, 1922, in St. Paul, Minnesota the son of Agnes and Otto Grossman. He was raised in St. Paul and graduated from Hamline University with a Degree in Accounting. Bob served his country during World War II in the United States Navy as a Lt. (jg) and served in the South Pacific. During his service he was united in marriage to Verna Maunu. After Bob was Honorably Discharged from the Navy he began working for Potlatch Corporation in Cloquet and Brainerd, Minnesota as an accountant. He worked for Potlatch for thirty-four years. Verna died in 1979. Bob married Beverly Grossman in Alexandria. After his retirement Bob and Bev moved to Hot Springs Village, Arkansas. They enjoyed volunteer work, friends, golf and involvement in church related activities for twenty years. Seven years ago the couple moved to the Alexandria area. Bob was an avid and knowledgeable spectator of sports ? he enjoyed fishing, traveling and gardening. Family and faith were very important to him. He was a caring, huggable person with a wonderful and winning personality and wit. Mr. Grossman died on Thursday, September 4, 2008. He is survived by his wife, Beverly; two sons: Richard of Florida, Robert & wife, Mary Jo of Cloquet, MN; daughter, Bette & husband, Ron Schmitz of Spicer, MN; two step sons: Daniel Lohrman of Helena, MT, Michael & wife, Julie of Willmar, MN; eight grandchildren: Kari (John) Grossman, Lea (Doug) Kapral, Michelle (Ben) Johnson, Patrick (Jen) Grossman, Jeffrey Schmitz, Mark Schmitz, Sara Lohrman, Jessica Lohrman; five great grandchildren: William & Robert Kapral, Amelia & Isaac Johnson, Margaret Grossman and several nieces and nephews. Memorial service was held on Monday, September 8, 2008, 2:00 p.m. at First Lutheran Church in Alexandria. Military Honors were by American Legion Post #87. Honorary Pallbearers were his grandchildren. Burial was at Lakeside Cemetery in Osakis, Minnesota.
