Robert Harberts

OBITUARY Robert Franklin Harberts was born on February 5, 1946 in Worthington, MN, the son of J.F. (Bud) and Arline Harberts. He graduated from Worthington High School in the Class of 1964 and attended Worthington Junior College before graduating from Mankato State University in 1971. Bob met Sally Leuthner and they were united in marriage on June 22, 1974 in Alexandria, MN. Two children were born to this union, Michael and Sara. Bob was an entrepreneur who had many successful businesses throughout his career. He owned the Swap Shop News in Windom and then the Lakeland Shopper in Alexandria. He went to Auctioneering school in 1975 and started Property 2 Real Estate in Alexandria. He was on the 1st board of directors with Viking Savings Bank and also in the restaurant business for many years with Joe Cody. In 1985, Bob and his family moved to Austin, Texas where he owned a liquor store, a hospital equipment business and later managed a large Dude Ranch. Bob moved back to Alexandria in 2000 and worked at Alexandria DockWorks until June of 2014. Bob was a one of kind man, always willing to try new things and lend a hand in any way he could. He loved the outdoors, and was an avid sportsman who loved his dogs. He gave many hours to Ducks Unlimited and several other sportsman?s clubs. He was known for his endless amount of stories and quick wit. He enjoyed impromptu road trips with his family and friends to many places around the country. He had an adventurous and sometimes mischievous way about him which made him a very loveable guy. Bob was very proud of his children and the accomplishments they have made of their lives. He loved his grandsons dearly and cherished every moment he spent with them. Bob?s grandsons have wonderful memories of 4-wheeling, building stuff, spending time at the farm, and stories at bedtime with their grandpa. He was blessed to have family and many friends who cared for him. He will be forever missed by all who knew and loved him. Robert F. Harberts died on Thursday, July 17, 2014 at the St. Cloud Hospital at the age of 68. He is survived by his son Michael (Tanya Prescott) Harberts of Alexandria; daughter Sara (Todd) Wagner of Austin, Texas; four grandchildren Tanner, Parker, Carter, and Spencer Wagner all of Austin, Texas; Sally Harberts of Alexandria, sisters Barb (Tom) Kepler of Boulder, CO and Connie (Harrison) Smith of Jamestown, ND; brothers Dale (Jane) Harberts of Rochester and Randy Harberts of Evansville, MN; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. A Memorial service will be held on Wednesday, July 23, 2014, 1:30 pm at Zion Lutheran Church in Alexandria. Urn Bearers are Michael Harberts, Tanner Wagner, Parker Wagner, Carter Wagner, and Spencer Wagner. Arrangements are with the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria www.andersonfuneral.net
