Robert Rydberg

Robert William Rydberg was born August 4, 1931 in Minneapolis, MN, the son of Oscar and Bertha (Norbeck) Rydberg. He was raised and schooled in Minneapolis. Following high school Bob attended Dunwoody Institute
On May 2, 1964 Bob was united in marriage to Delores Kuhnau at Zion Lutheran Church in Alexandria. The couple made their home in Minneapolis for three years before moving to a farm near Garfield, MN. The couple was blessed with five children. Bob joined the Alexandria Police Department in 1972. He was a solid beat officer. He walked the streets of Alexandria, checking doors and locks, looking out for the safety of the community and occasionally nabbing a burglar in the night. The people of Alexandria appreciated Bob’s policing and respected him as an officer of the law. Bob retired from the APD in 1989. In 2002 he and Delores moved to their current home near Lake Mary.
Bob was a longtime member of Zion Lutheran Church. He had a strong faith and knew his Bible well. Bob was always interested in learning new things. If there was something he needed to know Bob found a way to teach himself about it. Bob and Delores enjoyed traveling. They traveled to England and Italy. They saw most of the United States including Hawaii and Alaska.
On Monday, October 6, 2014 Bob died at the age of eighty-three years He is survived by his wife, Delores Rydberg of Alexandria; children, Rob Rydberg and wife, Debbie, of Big Lake, MN; Scott Rydberg and wife, Tammie, of Inver Grove Heights, MN, Sheryl Sweeden and husband, Bob, of Chile; Kris Rydberg and wife, Stephanie, of Shoreview, MN and Kraig Rydberg and wife, Heather, of Garfield; nineteen grandchildren; and thirteen great-grandchildren. Bob was preceded in death by four sisters.
A funeral service will be held 3:30 PM, Friday, October 10, 2014 at Zion Lutheran Church in Alexandria. Interment will follow in Kinkead Cemetery. Casket bearers include Ryan Rydberg, Nicholas Rydberg, Matt Rydberg, Josh Rydberg, Katlyn Rydberg Jesse Olson and Andrew Rydberg. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 PM Thursday at Zion Lutheran Church. Arrangements are with Anderson Funeral Home.
