Robert Leonard Schimmelpfennig, 88, of Alexandria passed away January 15, 2008, at Knute Nelson Memorial Home in Alexandria. Robert was born December 25, 1919, to Bruno and Bertha (Lippert) Schimmelpfennig in Mayer, MN. He was baptized and confirmed at the Lutheran Church in Mayer. Robert also attended eight years of school in Mayer. He was united in marriage to Aurelia Herrmann on July 27, 1940, at the United Church of Christ in Norwood, MN. They lived in several different areas of Minnesota, including Norwood, Bertha-Hewitt, Eagle Bend, Sauk Centre, Mayer and Carlos, as well as several years in Colorado Springs, CO, before retiring in Alexandria. Robert farmed for most of his life, working in his later years doing maintenance at the Holiday Inn and Arrowwood Lodge in Alexandria. Robert loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He loved tending to his cows and pigs while on the farm and loved watching any baseball game he could find, especially the Twins and the Alexandria Beetles. Robert is survived by his wife of sixty-seven years, Aurelia, and three children: Norman and wife, LaVonne Schimmelpfennig and Curtis and wife, Cheryl Schimmelpfennig, both of Alexandria and Karen and husband, Stephen Konsor of Rosemount, MN, seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He is further survived by one brother, Norman, of Glencoe, MN, three brothers-in-law: Mervin Herrmann of Fridley, MN, Safford and wife, Florence Herrmann and Orlind and wife, Ellen Herrmann, both of Colorado Springs, CO, as well as many nieces and nephews. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters-in-law and one brother-in-law. A funeral service was held on Saturday, January 19, 2008, at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Alexandria with the Reverend Scott Keehn and Reverend Lyle Avant officiating. Burial was at Kinkead Cemetery in Alexandria. Pallbearers were Robert?s grandchildren: Chad Schimmelpfennig, Wade Schimmelpfennig, Loren Boysen, Chris Konsor, Stephen Konsor, Paul Konsor, Arnie Roers and great-grandson Dylan Roers. Arrangements are with the Anderson Funeral Home of Alexandria, MN.
