Robert Freeland Strommen age 95 of Hudson Township, died on Tuesday May 31, 2016. A funeral service will take place on Thursday, June 2, 2016 at 1:00 PM at the Glenwood Lutheran Church in Glenwood, Minnesota. OBITUARY
Robert Freeland Strommen was born February 16, 1921 near Cyrus, MN, the son of Henry and (Caroline Schefflo) Strommen. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith At St. John's Lutheran Church near Starbuck, MN. Robert was raised and attended school in rural Pope County.
Following his schooling he worked on his parent's farm. He joined the United States Army and served his country during World War II. He tended bar at the Lakeside Ballroom in Glenwood and started his own trucking business. He hauled livestock and freight. While working at these jobs Robert was always farming. He loved farming and made it his life's work and hobby. He was a walking encyclopedia of knowledge on farm machinery. His focus was on Oliver tractors. He was a solid Oliver man and still owns several Olivers. Robert farmed until he was nearly ninety years old.
Robert also had an interest in automobiles and like spending time with his brother-in-law, Merlin, working on cars. He was fascinated by aircraft and loved attending airshows.
On Tuesday, May 31, 2016 Robert died at the age of ninety-five years. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Norman and Melvin Strommen, two sisters, Joyce Pospisil, and Helen Strommen; one nephew, Dale Strommen; one great niece, Tara Strommen; two sisters-in-law, Elda Strommen and Norma Lea; and two brothers-in-law, Merlin Busch and Harry Pospisil. Robert is survived by two sisters, Delores Strommen and Jane Busch; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service was held Thursday, June 2, 2016 at Glenwood Lutheran Church in Glenwood. Reverend Krista Lee officiated. Interment followed in the Glenwood Lutheran Cemetery. Casket bearers include Judy Glandt, Sandra Holverson, Sharon Jirschele, Cathy Brown, Thomas Strommen and James Pospisil. Honorary casket bearers include Nick & Heather Simonson and all of Robert's grandnieces and grandnephews.
Arrangements were with the Anderson Funeral Home.
