Robert Frank Vipond was born on February 14, 1949, in Alexandria, Minnesota the son of Clarence and Lorine (Lanners) Vipond. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Mary’s Church. Bob graduated from Alexandria Jefferson High School and furthered his education at Alexandria Technical College and University of Minnesota Morris receiving a Bachelor of Arts Degree with Distinction. Bob taught Social Studies at Alexandria District 206. He worked at Olson’s Produce prior to teaching.
Bob was united in marriage to Glenice Olson on July 15, 1972 at First Lutheran Church in Glenwood, Minnesota. They met in high school when they were 16 years old. To this union their son, Ryan was born. Bob and Glenice enjoyed traveling, fishing and spending time with their family and friends. Bob, Glenice and Ryan took road trips throughout the U.S. never passing up a visit to a museum or historic location. He enjoyed planning trips making sure nothing was missed. He loved working his organic garden and keeping it weed free.
He was a proud Vietnam Veteran serving in the Navy from 1968 to 1972. He was a member of the Alexandria VFW and once post commander. He was a member of St Mary’s Church in Alexandria.
Bob was a wonderful father who loved, supported and nurtured his son. He loved his grandchildren Nicholas, Rebecca, Juliana and Makayla taking them fishing, camping and extra effort with holiday celebrations and family events. He was committed to their religious and school education helping and supporting them.
Bob was a loving son and brother. Bob looked forward to hunting at the farm near Henning with his brothers and Sletto family. He was a ‘crack shot’ as the story goes. Family time, Lanners reunions, and Vipond –Sletto campouts at Lobster Lake were important to Bob. Bob loved the Vikings and Twins and cheered them on no matter what. He looked forward to playing golf with his weekly foursome Charles, Russ and Byron. Annual trips to Florida and Arizona during winter months and annual trip to the casino with Diane, Dale and Jack were highlights. Bob never saw a crossword puzzle he didn’t like. He was a scholar and loved teaching and talking about history especially World War II.
Robert passed away August 23, 2019 at Sanford Medical Center Fargo North Dakota after a courageous battle against cancer. He is survived by his wife, Glenice of Alexandria; son, Ryan of Aberdeen, S.D., grandchildren: Nicholas, Rebecca, Juliana and Makayla, daughter in law: Michelle Vipond of Aberdeen S.D.; mother, Lorine Vipond of Alexandria, brothers: Jack of Alexandria & Tom (Sharon) of Woodstock Ga, sister, Diane (Dale) Sletto of Carlos, brother, Mike (Diane) of Rosemount, MN, brother in laws: Charles (Mary) Olson & David Olson, sister in laws: Sandy (Dennis) Erickson, ShuWa Olson and Luwanna Olson; aunt, Theresa Lanners, nieces & nephews: Jen, Kim, Jacki, Meghan, Mitchell, Randy, Chad, Jason, Cory, Stephanie, Christina, Bob, Shannon, Jamie, Shawn; cousins and friends. He is preceded in death by his father, Clarence (Kiddo) Vipond, brother, Gordon Vipond, infant brother, in laws: Ray & Lorraine Olson, brother in law: James Olson, nephew, Mark McDonald, several aunts and uncles.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, August 30, 2019, 11;00 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial at St. Mary's Cemetery.
