Robert Lewis Wollin was born July 7, 1928 in Alexandria, MN the son of Emil and Margaret (Gall) Wollin. He was raised and schooled in Alexandria. In October 1950 Robert enlisted in the US Navy. On December 11, 1950 Robert was joined in marriage to LaJune Anderson at Calvary Lutheran Church in Alexandria. Robert served his nation during the Korean Conflict aboard the USS Norton Sound. After his discharge in July 1954 he moved his family to Kenosha, WI. Robert worked for American Brass-Anaconda as a machine operator and later as a manager. Following his retirement in 1985 Robert and LaJune returned to the Alexandria area. Robert was a member of the VFW and of Calvary Lutheran church. He enjoyed gardening in his vegetable garden and watching and feeding the birds. Robert also enjoyed spending time fishing in the summer and winter. He loved playing pinochle and cribbage with his family and friends. Robert?s children and grandchildren were very important to him. On Tuesday, August 17, 2010 Robert died at the age of eighty-two years. He was preceded in death by his wife, LaJune; one grandson, Robert Northway, IV: and his brother, Richard Wollin. Robert is survived by sons, Dale and wife, Barb Wollin, of Alexandria; Darrel Wollin of Orange Park, FL; Dennis Wollin of Alexandria; Steven and wife, Tammie Wollin, of Racine, WI; Scott and wife, Debbie Wollin, of LaCrosse, WI; daughter, Sandra and husband, Bryan Northway, of Ashby, MN; nineteen grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren. A funeral service was held on Saturday, August 21, 2010 at Calvary Lutheran Church in Alexandria with the Reverend Mark Astrup officiating. Tara Bitzan and Becky Worley provided music. Interment was in the Carlos Prairie Cemetery. Casket Bearers were all of Robert?s grandchildren. VFW Post 936, American Legion Post 87 and the Minnesota National Guard provided military honors. Arrangements are with the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria.
