Rodney Tvrdik

Rodney Tvrdik was born on November 19, 1945 in Parkers Prairie, Minnesota the son of Frank and Clara (Danelke) Tvrdik.  Rodney attended schools in District 206 and graduated from Jefferson Senior High School in Alexandria in 1963. He then proudly served his country in the Vietnam conflict for the United States Army.  Returning home to Alexandria after his service he began employment with Paul Aslagson in the masonry business and then furthered his career with John Bosek Masonry. In 1980 Rodney, his brother Curtis and cousin Kenneth started their own company, ‘Tvrdik Concrete’. Rodney loved to play softball, bowling, hunting, and bass fishing. He also followed the New York Yankees as his favorite team throughout his lifetime.  Rodney was also a lifetime member of the Alexandria Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #936.

In May of 2011 Rodney found out he had a terminal illness.  Rodney died on June 6, 2011 at the Knute Nelson in Alexandria.  Rodney is survived by his parents, Frank and Clara Tvrdik of Alexandria, sisters, Ann (Dean) Logan of Alexandria and Debbie (Bill) Hilldebrand of Champlain, MN; and six nieces and nephews, Katie Tvrdik and Adam (Makayla) Tvrdik, Erik Hilldebrand and Chad Hilldebrand, and Amanda Logan and Ryan Logan.  Also surviving is one great nephew, Wyatt.  Rodney was preceded in death by his brother Curtis in 2008 and several aunts and uncles.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alexandria on June 9, 2011 with the Rev. Steven Binsfeld, officiating.

Interment was in the Independent Bohemian Cemetery, Lowry, MN.  Serving as pallbearers were Gary Nelson, Jon Getz, Larry Okerlund, Jeff Thompson, Dean Peterson and Kenneth Tvrdik.  Honorary Pallbearers were fellow Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 936 members. Military honors were accorded by the American Legion Post 87, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 936 and the Minnesota National Guard Honors.
