Roger Perry

Roger B. Perry Roger B. Perry was born in Marshalltown, Iowa, on March 1, 1916, the son of Ralph and Marie (Booth) Perry. He was raised in the Baptist faith, attended schools and graduated from high school in Marshalltown. Roger attended junior college and then accepted a football scholarship at William Penn College in Iowa. Following college Roger was united in marriage to Wilma Johnson on September 4, 1938. He worked for Montgomery Ward in Fort Dodge, Iowa, and later worked in Albert Lea, Minnesota. Roger and Wilma then purchased a Maid-Rite sandwich shop in St. Cloud that they owned and operated for eight years before moving to Alexandria and founding Perry?s Furniture in 1956. The business continues to operate today under the third generation of the Perry family. Roger was very active in the Alexandria community. He was involved in the Masonic Lodge, was president of the Chamber of Commerce and was elected president for two terms at the Alexandria Golf Club. He was also one of the founding members of the Community State Bank of Alexandria. He died on October 4, 2011, at the Douglas County Hospital, in Alexandria, Minnesota, at the age of 95 years. Roger is survived by his wife Wilma Perry of Alexandria; children Michael (JoAnn) Perry of Alexandria, Pat (Barbara) Perry of Belgium, WI, and Janice (Brad) Nierengarten of Clearwater, FL. Also surviving are grandchildren Mark David Perry, Linda Kay Perry Nelson, Stephanie Lynn Perry McConville, Pat Roger Perry, Brian Michael Perry, Joseph David Perry, and Laura Elizabeth Perry and 14 great-grandchildren. Roger was preceded in death by his parents, son David, and three brothers. Funeral services were held on Friday, October 7, 2011, at the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria, Minnesota with Rev. Craig Dahl officiating. Music was provided by Laurie Youngers. Interment was in the Kinkead Cemetery in Alexandria with the grandchildren serving as pallbearers.
