Roger Smith, age 76, of Alexandria, died Monday, June 29, 2015. A funeral service will be held 1 PM, Friday, July 10, 2015 at Osakis Presbyterian Church in Osakis. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery at Alexandria. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 PM Thursday, July 9th, at the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria and also one hour prior to the service at church.
OBITUARY
Roger went home to the Lord on Monday, June 29, 2015 surrounded by his family. Roger was born in Woods Township in Chippewa County, MN on August 12, 1938 to LeRoy and Evangeline Smith. He grew up on the family farm near Kerkhoven, MN. In 1957, Roger graduated from Kerkhoven High School. On August 13, 1960 Roger was united in marriage to Janice Gort at Spicer, MN.
Roger started working as a mechanic at Berghius Road Construction in 1960 and in 1983 he went to work at Douglas County Highway Department. He spent the next eighteen years working for the Highway Department before retiring in 2001.
Roger enjoyed hunting and camping with his family. He liked to spend time birdwatching and doing word find puzzles. Roger enjoyed watching all sports on television, especially baseball.
Roger is survived by his wife of fifty four years, Janice Smith of Alexandria; sons, Brad Smith and wife, Shari, of Alexandria, and Brian Smith and wife, Cammie, of Rogers, MN; daughter, Barb Busch and husband, Jay, of Houston, TX; brother, Darrell Smith; and half-siblings, Treena, Terry, Donna, Todd and Fran. Roger is also survived by his eight grandchildren, Sarah, Erin, Carly, Jacob, Cody, Brinn, McKenna and Wade; and four great-grandchildren, Emma, Caleb, Hailey and Callie, that he loved very much.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents; and parents-in-law, Rob and Angie Gort.

Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery at Alexandria. Casket bearers include Jacob Busch, Wade Smith, Cody Smith, Jay Busch, Dave Lund and Ben Lucas. Honorary casket bearers include Sarah Lund, Erin Smith, Carly Busch, Brinn Busch and McKenna Smith. Visitation for Roger will be from 4 to 7 PM Thursday at Anderson Funeral Home. Additional visitation will be one hour prior to the service at church.
