Roland Frebert Henry Zachow was born on July 26, 1915 in Gaylord, Minnesota to Robert and Helena (Marth) Zachow. He attended school in Gaylord and then worked at lumberyards in Arlington and Morton. While working in Morton Roland met Agnes. Roland was united in marriage to Agnes Macheledt on August 24, 1938 in Olivia, MN. They made their home in Morton until WWII. During the war they lived in Washington, Idaho and Utah until Roland joined the Navy in 1945. He was a member of the Seabees and was honorably discharged as a carpenters mate third class. After the war they resided in Yakima, WA, Redwood Falls, Glenwood, and Dallas, TX. He has resided in Alexandria for the past 29 years and was a member of First Lutheran Church. Roland enjoyed duck, pheasant and deer hunting. He also loved working with his hands doing carpentry and woodcarving, and golfing at Arrowwood. Roland died on June 20, 2009 at his home in Alexandria at the age of 93. He is survived by son, Roland Lee (Delores) Zachow of Colome, SD; daughter, Arlyce (Dennis) Johnson of Tucson, AZ; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; brother, Norman (Audrey) Zachow of Hutchinson. He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Helena; wife, Agnes; brother, Martin; and sister, Gertrude Groehler. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, June 27, 2009 at First Lutheran Church in Alexandria. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Arrangements are with the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria.
