Roy Schwendemann

Roy was born on August 9, 1928, and passed away on May 8, 2022, from pancreatic cancer.

Roy was born to parents Herman and Gladys (Cramlett) Schwendemann on August 9, 1928, on the farm located in DeGraff MN. Roy grew up on the family farm but never liked looking at the backside of the plow horse so at age 19 he moved to Alexandria and was united in marriage to Verla Lemke in Alexandria MN on May 2, 1948. To this union three daughters were born: Patricia, Barbara, and Susan.

Roy believed that if you wanted something in life you had to work for it. He had several jobs during his lifetime including working at the State and Andria Theater’s for 35 years. He also worked at Alexandra Light & Power for 35 years ending his career as Underground Forman. Roy retired at age 59 leaving him time for woodworking and carving. He and Verla created and sold their crafts at sales in MN, Dakotas, and Wyoming. They also loved to travel in their motorhome making 3 trips to Alaska. Roy loved Old time music and going to polka dances but his greatest lifelong love was fishing.  “Fun Lake” was usually the destination for the day's outing which resulted in numerous fish fries with family and friends.

Roy is survived by wife Verla of 74 years. Daughters, Barbara Kuhlman (Darryl Sonnenberg) Lino Lakes, Susan (Ed) Novak Sheridan Wy, Son-in-law James Patri Alexandria. Grandchildren; Kern Kuhlman, Lino Lakes, Kimberly Kuhlman, Hopkins. Siblings: Hazel Jergenson, BettyAnn VanLuik, and Leo (Ione) Schwendemann.

Preceded in death by daughter Patricia Patri, grandson Emiliano Godinez, brother LaVern Schwendemann, sister Florence Roush, brother-in law’s Francis Jergenson and Ruben VanLuik.

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, May 13, 2022, at 1 PM at the Anderson Funeral Home Chapel with the Pastor James Walburg officiating.

A visitation will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., on Friday, May 13, at Anderson Funeral Home Chapel in Alexandria.

Interment will be in Kinkead Cemetery in Alexandria.
