Ruben Jensen

Ruben Jensen, age 95, of Alexandria, MN was born in Tomah, Wisconsin on January 2, 1928, to Martha and Anton Jensen, both immigrants from Denmark.  He was the seventh child of nine children, six boys and three girls.  He passed away on Sunday, October 29, 2023, in Alexandria, Minnesota. 

He was raised on a farm in the Tomah area.  He attended school in a one room schoolhouse through the eighth grade.  He graduated from Tomah high school with the class of 1946.  He especially loved playing football and was also a golden gloves boxer.

In 1948 he left Tomah and moved to Iowa to work for a cousin as a hired hand.  There he met Evelyn Roenfeld, the love of his life.  In 1950 he and Evelyn were married in the Elkhorn Lutheran Church in Elkhorn, Iowa.  They were married almost 72 years.  To this union, three daughters were born, Ilene (Steve) Kahler of Plattsmouth, NE, Cheryl, who passed away after open heart surgery at the age of five years and Loraine Jensen, who lives in Alexandria, MN.  Ruben was a farmer, then cattle buyer for twenty-five years.  He loved people and loved telling stories.  After Ruben retired, he got restless and went back to buying cattle a couple of times, his final job was at the local Walmart in Alexandria. 

Ruben was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.  Ruben and Evelyn have four grandsons, Dennis (Tammy) Kahler of Plattsmouth, NE, Kevin Kahler of Plattsmouth, NE, David (Rachel) Porter of Minneapolis, MN, and Daniel (Monica) Porter of Grand Junction, CO.  They also have four great grandchildren, Kelsie Fisher, Justice Kahler, Kaiden Kahler and Charlee-Jo Sempek all of Plattsmouth. 

Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, November 4, 2023, at 10:30 AM at St. Paul’s United Community Church in Plattsmouth (Livestreamed on the Funeral Home Facebook Page).

Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM until 7:30 PM on Friday, November 3, 2023, at Harvey Funeral Home.

Memorials may be directed to the family for future designation.
