Ruby LaVerne Anderson was born June 12, 1929 in Brandon Township, MN, the daughter of Robert and Jennie (Anderson) Anderson. Ruby grew up in the Brandon area. At age ten she and her family moved to Evansville, MN. Ruby attended school at District 52 and graduated from Evansville High School. She continued her education in Minneapolis where she became an LPN. Ruby moved to Alexandria, MN and began working for St. Luke?s Hospital. On June 12, 1949 Ruby was united in marriage to L. DeWayne ?Duddy? Anderson at Calvary Lutheran Church in Alexandria. The couple made their home in Alexandria where they began raising a family. Duddy was called up to active duty in the United States Navy and the family moved east to Wilmington, DE. After seventeen months they all returned to Alexandria in 1952. In the mid 1960?s Ruby began working part-time at the Douglas County Hospital. She retired from nursing in the mid 1970?s. In 1972 Ruby and Duddy moved to Holmes City Township. They became members of Trinity Lutheran Church in Holmes City. They sold that home in 1999 and lived in Lowry, MN for three years. Ruby and Duddy returned to Alexandria where the lived at Bridgewater Estates for the next ten years. In 2012 the couple moved to Evansville. Ruby was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Eagles Auxiliary. She was active in her churches though the LCW and WELCA. Ruby enjoyed crocheting and quilting. She kept her children, grandchildren and great- grandchildren warm by making them quilts, scarves, hats, mittens and afghans. Ruby was exceptionally good at cross-stitch work. Her work was shown at art fairs and won a Grand Prize at the Western States Art Show. Ruby also liked to read, do crossword puzzles and watch the birds at the birdfeeders. Ruby treasured the time she spent with her family, especially her grandchildren and great - grandchildren On Saturday, January 4, 2014 Ruby died at the age of eighty-four years. She is survived by her husband, Duddy Anderson of Evansville; four sons, Bruce Anderson, his wife Carol, and their four children and nine grandchildren; Keith Anderson, his wife Sue, and their three children and three grandchildren; Robert Anderson, his wife Pat, and their four children and eight grandchildren; Jeff Anderson, his wife, Peg, and their two children; one daughter, Carol DeLapp, her husband, Tim; one sister, Lois Larson, her husband, Ron and numerous nieces and nephews, friends, and relatives. A funeral service will be held at 11 AM Friday, January 10, 2014 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Holmes City. Reverend Denise Croskey will officiate. Interment will follow at a later date in the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery at Camp Ripley, MN. Honorary pallbearers include all of Ruby?s grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her generous smile, her lutefisk dinners, her pinochle laughs, her recipe advice, and her loving ways will be missed by her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
