OBITUARY
Rupert “Dickie” Reinhart Hugo Krohnfeldt was born March 24, 1928, to Julius and Hermina (Froemming) Krohnfeldt. He was born on the family farm in Ida Township near Alexandria, MN. Rupert was baptized and confirmed at Ebenezer Lutheran Church. He attended country school in Ida Township. Following his schooling, Rupert worked on the family farm for his parents.
Rupert was drafted into the United States Army in 1950. He served from 1950-1956 and for two years was stationed in Korea and fought in the Korean War. Rupert received an Honorable discharge from the United States Army in 1956. Following his discharge, Rupert returned to the family farm. He worked the family farm with his two brothers, Eugene and Clifford, for many years. They were especially proud of their Jersey dairy herd and showcased some of their cattle at the Douglas County Fair for many years. He also worked as a carpenter with his brother Harold.
On September 29, 1957, Rupert was united in marriage to Myna Jean Dreger in Ebenezer Lutheran Church. They built a home near the family farm and were blessed with four daughters. Following Rupert’s retirement from farming, he continued to keep busy helping area farmers, working maintenance at Pilgrim Point Bible Camp, and especially enjoyed his last place of employment – Voyager Aluminum in Brandon, MN. Rupert finally retired from work at age eighty-five.
Rupert’s church and faith were very important to him. He served as a church elder, on the church council and was a member of the choir. He and Myna served as the church janitors for many years. Rupert was a member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Early in his life Rupert enjoyed bowling on a league team and later enjoyed trips to the casino with his wife, family, and friends. He was an avid Twins fan whether the team was winning or losing. Rupert was a solid John Deere man; his tractors and equipment had to be John Deere. He loved doing yard work and had the best kept yard around. For several years Rupert never missed his morning coffee time with his coffee buddies at Lloyd’s CafANLGAC. (Northwood’s CafANLGAC.). Family was very important to Rupert; every fall he looked forward to deer hunting and spending time with family out in the woods. He was his grandchildren’s biggest fan at their many activities. But he really enjoyed teasing, joking, and bringing a smile to everyone’s face.
On Wednesday, May 18, 2016 Rupert died at the age of eighty-eight. He was preceded in death by his parents; and ten siblings, Harold, Ruben, Eugene, Elmer, Clifford, Rufine, Rose, Leona, Renetta, and Myrtle.
