Ruth L. Knox age 90 of Alexandria died on Sunday, February 15, 2015 at the Douglas County Hospital in Alexandria. A Funeral Service will be held 2:00 PM on Saturday, February 21, 2015 at New Life Christian Church in Alexandria. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the New Life Christian Church in Alexandria.
Ruth Luverne Knox was born on October 25, 1924 in Packard, Iowa to Vern and Dorothy (Bye) Willey. She graduated from High School in Greene, Iowa and went to college, receiving a teaching degree at the age of 18.
Ruth got married to Robert Knox in 1944 in Phoenix City, Alabama, and was blessed with six children. The family moved frequently and lived in all parts of Iowa. They later moved to Minneapolis where she continued caring for her family. They built a home in Mora, MN where they lived for a number of years, then they moved to Mapleton, IA where they owned a Best Western Motel. After selling the motel, Ruth and Robert made a final move back to Minnesota, living in Prior Lake and New Hope before moving into a home they built on Lake Latoka in Alexandria. Their next move was to Osakis. Ruth moved back to Alexandria 9 years ago where she has been since.
In her younger years, Ruth enjoyed golfing and fishing. In her later years she enjoyed reading, crocheting, and playing games.
She loved her Lord and was very active in her church and with Bible Studies. Ruth loved her family unconditionally and would do anything she could for them.
Ruth died on Sunday, February 15, 2015 at the Douglas County Hospital in Alexandria at the age of 90. She is survived by her children, Vicki (Larry) Larson of Millcreek, WA; Barry (Nancy) Knox of Outing, MN, Kathy Knox of Fairmont, MN, Bobby (Jan) Knox of Sauk Centre, and Brenda (Travis) Larson of Marine, MN; 8 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren; brother, Dale Willey of Ankenny, IA; and many nieces and nephews. Ruth is preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Bradley; grandson, Brent and sister, Judy (Willey) Viggers.
