Ruth Thunberg was born on June 16, 1916, in Leaf Valley, Minnesota, to Ewald and Dorothea Klug. She attended school through the eighth grade. She went to work at her aunt and uncle?s caf� in Nelson, Minnesota in 1937, where she met her husband Ray. Ruth and Ray were united in marriage on June 16, 1940. After their marriage the couple made their home with Ray?s parents on the family farm. To this union three children were born. Along with raising their three children Ruth worked with Ray on the farm. After her children had grown Ruth fulfilled her love of writing by completing a course in journalism and a three-year study of creative writing. She also enjoyed writing poetry and was often called upon to write poems for special occasions. Mrs. Thunberg became involved in starting a one-to-one program at Fergus Falls State Hospital a position she held for 15 years. She also co-counseled at Alexandria Family Education Center, headed a Friendly Visitor Program at St. Luke?s Home in Alexandria, and enjoyed helping with senior citizen activities. In 2003, a book ?As the Wind Blows, My Life in Retrospect? was compiled of her writings and poems. Ruth moved from the farm to Bethel Manor when Ray was admitted Bethany Home. After he passed away, she moved to Windmill Ponds and later to Diamond Willow. Mrs. Thunberg died on Monday, May 24, 2010, at the Douglas County Hospital. She is survived by her three children: Glenn (Carol) Thunberg of Burr Oak, Iowa, Karen (Don) Jacobson of Petoskey, Michigan, Joetta (Larry) Fontaine of Bloomington, Minnesota; seven grandchildren, six great grandchildren, brother, Elton (Lois), Jennings (Olivia), and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, Raymond; parents, granddaughter, Cindy Jo Braeger; brothers: Clarence, Waldo, Herbert, Ben Vern; sisters: Leona, Irene, Florence and Delda. Funeral services were held on Friday, May 28, 2010, 11:00 a.m. at Fahlun Lutheran Church with Rev. Barbara Lund Thompson officiating. Pallbearers were Don Jacobson, Brian Thunberg, Aaron Fontaine, Larry Fontaine, David Fontaine, Adrien Paquin. Burial was at Fahlun Cemetery
