Salmer ?Sam? Berg was born on January 1, 1925 in Villard, Minnesota the son of Nels and Dorothy (Stangeland) Berg. He attended Orange Township Country School through the 8th grade. Sam served his country in the United States Army during World War II. He saw action in the Philippines, Japan and Hiroshima after it had been bombed. Sam received several medals for his service to his country and was honorably discharged on August 21, 1946. On May 14, 1952 Sam was united in marriage to Lola Hubred. After their marriage the couple farmed in Orange Township where they raised their three children: Guy, Barb and Tamara. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and was an advocate for wildlife. His true love was farming and was able to continue working on the farm through this Fall. Sam died on Monday, November 26, 2012. He is survived by two children: Guy &fianc�e, Linda of Osakis; daughter, Barb & husband, Gary Ellis of Osakis; son-in-law, Dean Job of Sisseton, SD; grandson, Scott (Sheri); two great grandchildren: Samantha & Sydney; brothers: David of Osakis, Martin (Marlys) of Webster, SD. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lola; daughter, Tamara; five brothers & sisters: Norris, Leonard, Clarence, Anna, Helen. Memorial service will be held on Thursday, November 29, 2012, 11:00 a.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home with Rev. Wayne Erickson officiating. Burial will be at the Lakeside Cemetery in Osakis.
