Sharon Mae Bergstresser was born March 14, 1940 to Glenn and Lila (Johnson) Hanson in Albert Lea, MN. She was baptized and confirmed at First Lutheran Church in Albert Lea. Sharon graduated from high school in 1958 and continued her education at Mankato State University. She worked at Wallace’s Department Store while earning her degree in Early Childhood Education. Sharon married Russell Timm on May 14, 1961 at First Lutheran Church in Albert Lea, MN. The couple moved to Fairmont, MN where Sharon founded the Little Lights Pre-school at Grace Lutheran Church. Sharon and Russ moved to Layfette, IN in 1982 where in their spare time they liked to golf, go out with friends, and enjoy time with their dalmatian named Lady. Sharon enjoyed her role as a travel guide with Tippecanoe County prior to Russ retiring and moved to Port Charlotte, FL. While in Port Charlotte Sharon spent many years driving the special education school bus for the local school district. After the death of her first husband Russ, Sharon stayed at her home in Florida and later married her neighbor, Donald Bergstresser, on January 28, 2004. Sharon and Bergy were socialites who loved to host gatherings for friends and family. They were known for hosting their annual Christmas Eve party. They also loved to travel and visit new places, when they weren’t on the go, Sharon and Bergy spent their time dotting on their cats, Chester and Sambucca. After Bergy died in 2015 Sharon continued to live in Port Charlotte and spend summers in Minnesota with her family until she moved to Minnesota in 2020.
Sharon Bergstresser died on Tuesday, August 24, 2021 at Sanford Health in Fargo at the age of 81 years. She is survived by her sister: Barbara (Milton) Lund; six nieces and nephews; several great- nieces and nephews; and stepdaughter: Lori (Shane) Carpenter. Sharon was preceded in death by her husbands: Russell and Donald; parents: Glenn and Lila; brother: Gary; infant brother: Glenn Jr.; and infant nephew: Adrian.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, August 30, 2021, at Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. This service will be live-streamed and recorded for family and friends to view from Sharon’s obituary page on the Anderson Funeral Home website at 11:00 AM on Monday. Burial will be at Hillcrest Cemetery in Albert Lea, MN.
