OBITUARY Shawn Jay Olson was born on March 3, 1969 in Parkers Prairie, Minnesota to Arthur and Rose (Rieder) Olson. He was baptized at St. James Lutheran Church in South Effington Township and confirmed at Calvary Lutheran Church in Alexandria. Shawn graduated in 1987 from Jefferson High School in Alexandria, and attended college for two years before enlisting in the U.S. Air Force in 1989. In 1994 Shawn moved to New Orleans, met Liz Olberding, and the two of them became inseparable. Moving to Eugene, OR in 1995, Shawn committed his life to creating music, writing and producing original works while performing at local venues. In 2002, the couple moved to Anchorage, AK. Shawn maintained loyal employment with Sherwin-Williams, where he was known for his great work ethic and funny sense of humor. In his spare time, he continued developing his music and golf game. In addition to his passion for music, Shawn loved hunting and fishing and camping. His enjoyment for the outdoors started as a young boy growing up on Lake Miltona. His duck hunting, ice fishing, and skating skills were sharpened on that lake. After moving to Anchorage, Shawn was able to continue pursuing all of his interests within the beautiful Alaskan scenery. Shawn died on Sunday, December 30, 2012 at his home in Anchorage, AK at the age of 43. He is survived by his father, Arthur W. Olson of Alexandria; his heart?s great love, Liz Olberding of Anchorage, AK; siblings, Doug (Carol) Olson of Sioux Falls, SD, Bonita (Dave) Gilbertson of Alexandria, Randall (Rochelle) Olson of Washington D.C. and Ginger Olson of St. Cloud; many nieces and nephews; and black lab, Jenkins. Shawn is preceded in death by his mother, Rose; brother, Rickey Olson; and loving black lab, MacKenzie. A memorial service was held on Monday, January 7, 2013 at Calvary Lutheran Church in Alexandria with Reverend Hans Dahl officiating. Music was provided by Kim Byrne. Honorary urn bearers were Scott Gilbertson, Michael McHugh, Jamie Zimmer, Gus Olberding, Nick Oberding, Rick Gilbreath, Kristi Wenner, Eric Bonnigson, and Eric Krubsac.
