Sheila Patricia Torgusen was born September 10, 1951 in Wells, MN, the daughter of Christian and Shirley (Backhus) Torgusen. Her family eventually moved to Brandon, MN. Sheila grew up in Brandon was confirmed at Chippewa Lutheran Church in Brandon. She graduated from Brandon High School in 1969. In 1970 Sheila was united in marriage to David Bjoralt. The couple was blessed with two children, Shawn and Deanna. Sheila worked at various jobs in the area including several years at Traveler?s Inn in Alexandria. When her daughter, Deanna, moved to Oregon to attend college, Sheila moved to Eugene, OR to be near her. Most recently Sheila worked for the Lane County Sheriff?s Department in the Lane County Jail. Eventually Sheila was disabled and no longer able to work due to several chronic health conditions. After nineteen years in Oregon Sheila returned to Alexandria and became a resident at Bethany Home. In her earlier years Sheila served as a volunteer for 4-H. She was very active in her church where she taught Sunday School and joined in helping out at church events. Sheila also enjoyed socializing and making new friends. She was known for her determined personality and outspokenness; she said what she meant and she meant what she said. Sheila?s family was very important to her, she was very proud of her children?s accomplishments and the paths they have followed. Her former husband, David, also remained an important part of her life; David was a good friend that Sheila knew she could count on. On Tuesday, August 4, 2009 Sheila died at the age of fifty-seven years. Her father, Christian Torgusen and one brother Roy Torgusen preceded her in death. Sheila is survived by her son, Shawn Green and wife, Roxanne, of Alexandria; her daughter, Deanna McGlothin and husband, Robert, of Sandy, OR; her mother, Shirley Cichy of Alexandria; five granddaughters; Sadie Green, Peyton Green, Kelsi McGlothin, Grace McGlothin and Ella McGlothin; two brothers, Russell Torgusen and wife, Barbra, of Port Lavaca, TX and Richard Torgusen and wife, Rose, of Elbow Lake, MN; and one sister, Cheryl Johnson and husband, Gerald, of Evansville, MN. A funeral service was held Friday, August 7, 2009 at First Lutheran Church in Alexandria. Reverend John Peshek officiated. Deanna McGlothin and Randy Morken provided music. Interment was private at the Finnish Apostolic Church Cemetery in Moe Township. Casket bearers included David Bjoralt, Shawn Green and members of Sheila?s family. Honorary casket bearers included all of Sheila?s granddaughters, nieces and nephews. Arrangements were with Anderson Funeral Home.
