Sherlock Olson

Sherlock “Ole” Olson was born February27, 1925 in Cambridge, MN, the son of William and Florence (Olson) Olson. Ole grew up in Cambridge where he graduated from high school. Following his schooling Ole served in the United States Army for two years. After being discharged from the army Ole took the train home. On the train he met Loretta Vitale and five minutes later knew who he wanted to marry.
On January 24, 1948 Ole was united in marriage to Loretta in Detroit, MI. The couple moved to Minneapolis, MN and were blessed with two children, Rick and Janet. Ole worked for many years as a milkman. About 1972 Ole and Loretta moved to Alexandria where he began working for 3M. In 1974 he began helping out the radiator repair shop in Alexandria. The shop was renamed M & O Radiator and the Coffee shop next door was run by Loretta. Eventually Ole transitioned out of 3M and worked fulltime at the radiator repair shop and the coffee shop. They eventually sold those businesses and Ole went to work for the Miltona Golf Course and, later, Geneva Golf Course as a groundskeeper. He continued working until he became disabled with Alzheimer’s disease. Ole has lived at Peaceful Bliss care center for the last six years.
Ole was a member of the Eagle’s Club in Alexandria. Ole enjoyed playing golf. He fished in the summer and hunted deer in the fall. Ole liked spending time playing cards with friends and family. He liked working in his shop building things and doing craftwork. Ole’s family was very important to him. He loved his wife and children; he especially loved spending time with his grandchildren.
On Sunday, December 28, 2014 Ole died at the age of eighty-nine years. He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant sister; and one brother, Warren Olson. Ole is survived by his wife Loretta Olson of Alexandria; son, Rick Olson and wife, Marian, of Minnetonka, MN; daughter, Janet Brandt and husband, Richard, of Clarissa, MN; grandchildren, April Olson, Erin Olson, Amanda Wetrosky, Mike Mulville, Nathan Mulville, Matthew Mulville and Chad Dilley; great grandchildren, Jonah Wetrosky, McKenna Wetrosky, Emmah Thompson and Kylan Mulville; brother, Wally Olson and wife, Faye, of Osseo, MN; sister, Ardelle Kirkeby and husband, Glenn, of Farmington, MN; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was held Friday, January 2, 2015 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Carlos, MN. Honorary pallbearers included all of Ole’s grandchildren. Military honors were provided by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 936, American Legion Post 87 and the Minnesota National Guard.
Arrangements were with the Anderson Funeral Home.
