Shiela Josene Nystul was born on January 18, 1940 in Fargo, North Dakota the daughter of Ernest and Lila (Davenport) Nystul. She attended school in Fargo, Mayville, and Jamestown North Dakota. Her fondest memories were in Mayville (1st ? of 8th grade) where she shared the classroom with the same group of friends, year after year, enjoying the freedom of living in a small town. Shiela had the privilege of spending time in Mayville, June 26th & 27th, 2010 reminiscing about the years spent there. This meant so much to both Shiela and her sister, Erleen. After graduation from high school, Shiela attended Lutheran Bible Institute in Minneapolis, MN. While in Minneapolis she started working as a Nurses Aide at Ebenezer Nursing Home. She eventually moved to Alexandria, MN where she worked as a nurses aide at both Bethany & Knute Nelson. Most of her 30 plus years were spent at Knute Nelson. She retired in January of 2004. Many people remember Shiela for her great generosity and spontaneous sense of humor. If somebody liked something she had she would probably eventually give it to him/her. She was always thinking about other people, after saying, ?Don?t worry about me!? She could find humor in most any situation. Shiela had a great love for animals, with one of her favorite TV shows being ?Animal Planet.? She has enjoyed living in Bethel Manor the past five years, making many new friends. Shiela recently started a collection of ?Willow Tree Angels,? inspired by the first one she received as a gift from a dear friend, Donna Rother. Shiela, herself, will be remembered as an angel to many people. Shiela died on Tuesday, January 15, 2011. She was preceded in death by her parents: Lila & Ernest Nystul. She is survived by her sister & brother-in-law, Erleen & Terry Keating; niece, Tamara Keating of Fort Collins, CO; nephew, Christopher Keating, stationed in the Navy at Atsuzi Base in Japan; aunt, Kathryn DuWaldt of Chicago, IL; and many cousins. With no children of her own, she thought the world of her nephew and niece. Family meant a lot to Shiela, and she meant a lot to so many people. She will be missed by many. Since July, 2010, the employees and volunteers from Hospice have provided such wonderful support for Shiela. We know she is spreading the ?Good Word? about all of you in Heaven! Memorials can be made to the American Heart Association, the Cancer Society or a charity of your choice. Memorial services were held on Friday, February 18, 2011, 11:00 a.m. at First Lutheran Church in Alexandria with Rev. Sherry Billberg officiating. Burial was at Evergreen Cemetery in Alexandria.
