Shirley Ann Dorn was born on September 26, 1927, in New Ulm, MN. Shirley was an only child to Roman and Teresa (Gasner) Dorn. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Ulm, MN. Shirley graduated from New Ulm High School in 1945. She earned her Nursing Degree from St. Catherine’s College in St. Paul, MN.
On June 24, 1950, Shirley Dorn was united in marriage to Thomas C. Herzog in New Ulm, MN. To this marriage they had five children: Anne, Patricia, Jayne, Tom Jr. and Christine. Tom and Shirley moved to Mankato, MN in 1955 and later to Alexandria, MN in 1973. They lived on Lake Mary and in 1996 moved to Lake Le Homme Dieu.
Shirley working career included working at Bethany Home for thirteen years. Shirley also worked as a full time Mom raising her 5 children.
Spending time with family and friends was important to Shirley. She absolutely loved holidays with her family and spending time at the lake will never be forgotten. Shirley and Tom enjoyed over 20 years wintering in Gulf Shores, Alabama. They enjoyed the beauty of the Gulf, spending time on the beach and the friendships they developed over the years.
Shirley was a member of the Daughters of Isabella, VFW Auxiliary, and the Elks Does.
Shirley died on Monday, July 6, 2015 surrounded by her family. She is survived by her husband, Thomas; Son, Tom Jr. (Lori), Bloomington, MN, Daughters: Anne Herzog, Atlanta, Ga., Patricia Rohkohl (Rick), Bloomington, MN , Jayne Flood (Jeff), No. Mankato, MN, Chris Pappenfus (Tom), Alexandria, MN. Grandchildren: Doug and Steven Rohkohl, Charlie and Jennifer Flood and fury grand dogs.
She was preceded in death by her parents Roman and Teresa Dorn.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, July 10, 2015, 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alexandria. Burial at Fort Snelling National Cemetery on Friday, July 17, 2015 at 11:35 a.m. Arrangements were made with the Anderson Funeral Home, Alexandria. (www.andersonfuneral.net)
